Dr No no no!

Being asked to perform the theme song for the latest James Bond movie is possibly the pinnacle of most artists’ careers. This is something Sam Smith perhaps didn’t consider before he agreed to be the voice for the theme for Spectre.

There are two things most people who enjoy a good James Bond theme expect – that the name of the movie is mentioned in the song, preferably in the chorus, and that you can actually sing along when in you’re in the car, shower or wherever you choose to practice your musical talents. Think Wings with Live and Let Die or most recently Adele with Skyfall

English singer-songwriter Sam Smith may have taken the musical world by storm but with Writing’s on the wall he’s missed the mark. If it weren’t for the ubiquitous orchestral chords, you’d be hard pushed to tell it was a Bond theme. And when the singer himself says he had to “squeeze his nuts” to hit the high notes, what chance do you and I have?

I am the first to admit that I have a voice that would curdle milk, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a bit of theatrical lyricism now and again. Sadly, Sam Smith, you’ve ruined this one for me!

What do you think? Is it a hit or should I stick to singing along to 80s pop?
