Sam Armytage embarks on a new chapter in television after recent life changes.

In a twist that has taken television audiences by surprise, Sam Armytage, the former Sunrise host who stepped away from the limelight in 2021, has made a striking return to the breakfast TV scene.

This time, however, she’s not where you might expect her to be. After leaving a life of early morning starts and the hustle and bustle of morning TV behind for a quieter existence in the country with her then-husband, Armytage has now re-emerged on a different network, making her debut on Nine’s Today show.

The move is unexpected, not only because of her previous long-term association with Seven’s Sunrise, where she co-hosted alongside David Koch from 2013 to 2021, but also due to the recent news of her split from husband Richard Lavender. The personal development adds a layer of intrigue to her professional pivot, as viewers and fans alike grapple with the news of her return to a domain she once left for a more serene life.

Armytage’s foray back into breakfast television saw her co-hosting with Dan Anstey, stepping in for the regular Weekend Today hosts David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys, who themselves were filling in for Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo. Her appearance was met with a mix of excitement and nostalgia, as she acknowledged the change with a touch of humour, quipping about her new network home and playfully reminiscing about meeting Anstey at the Melbourne Cup.

But Armytage’s TV comeback isn’t limited to guest spots on morning shows. She’s also set to host Nine’s new dating show, The Golden Bachelor, slated to premiere in 2025. This marks a significant shift in her career trajectory, venturing into the realm of reality TV hosting, a genre that continues to captivate Australian audiences with its blend of romance, drama, and the promise of finding love.

The career shake-up comes at a time when Armytage’s personal life has been under the microscope following her separation from Lavender. The couple’s split, while described as amicable, has been a source of media attention, with Armytage requesting privacy and declining further comment on the matter. Her departure from Sunrise was initially framed as a desire to step back from public life and enjoy time with her family and new husband.
