Australia is barrelling headlong towards what was until recent years very much an American phenomenon – Black Friday sales. The term Black Friday in this sense refers to the day after one of the most important US holidays.
Thanksgiving is marked each year on the fourth Thursday of November. Being a public holiday, it leaves one work day before the weekend, which many take as a day of leave, giving themselves a long, long weekend. (Here in Australia, many Melburnians do the same on the Monday before Melbourne Cup Day, a public holiday on the first Tuesday in November.)
At some point, US retailers decided to use the day as a marketing tool to kick off their pre-Christmas sales. And so Black Friday sales were born, and its influence has spread in recent years. It is now a regular part of Australia’s retail calendar.
For Aussies seeking a bargain, that’s potentially good news. “But”, I hear you say, “that’s still two weeks away. How does that help me find a bargain now?”
That’s a fair enough question, to which I respond, “Supercheap Auto!” For those who simply cannot wait, the folks at Supercheap Auto are here with their ‘Super Early Black Friday Sale’. That means bargains galore two weeks ahead of schedule. Check out below what you can do for your car at discount prices. And while you’re at it, catch up on the deals at Adore Beauty Frenzy sale. Clearly the good folk at Adore couldn’t wait for Black Friday either! And for this week’s grocery specials, we’ll take you to IGA, where you’ll find half-price treats for humans and dogs, too.
Supercheap Auto
Not just for petrol heads, Supercheap Auto offers a wide range of products for anyone who has a car. And for the next 10 days, many of those are indeed ‘super cheap’. Take Valvoline engine oil, for instance. Six-litre bottles of oil to suit your car’s engine are now on sale at half price. And you can spruce up your car with genuine RM Williams car seat covers and floor mats, all marked down by 20 per cent. Or tidy up that messy car boot with a 100-litre storage container, down from $44.99 to just $29.99.
These bargains and many more are all here in the Supercheap ‘Super Early Black Friday Sale’ catalogue.
Adore Frenzy Sale
Don’t just pamper your car for a good price, do the same for yourself! Take advantage of Adore Beauty’s Frenzy sale, which is on now. A huge range of Adore’s beauty products have been reduced by as much as 40 per cent. Like Dr LeWinn’s Ultra R4 Collagen Face Mask, marked down from $9.95 to just $5.97.
Then there’s the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Moisturiser. A 75ml tube is on sale at $37.60, a 20 per cent saving.
If you become an Adore subscriber, there are still more bargains to be had, such as CeraVe’s Foaming Cleanser. You can get a big 473ml container for just $19.19, a 20 per cent saving. And it’s hard to go past CeraVe’s moisturising cream. Keep your skin soft and supple with a 340g jar, also at 20 per cent off if you become a subscriber.
Those are just the QTip (pardon the pun) of the Adore Frenzy Sale iceberg. Check out the full range of specials here.
IGA
It’s a very busy time of year and you surely deserve a bit of a break now and then. To make each of those breaks even more special, head down to IGA and take advantage of their range of half-price treats. Fancy a Snickers or Mars Bar? Half price. Or how about a box of Cadbury Favourites? Half price. Or perhaps you’re more of a Ferrero Rocher chocolate lover. No problem, the Ferrero Rocher gift box is on sale at better than half price!
And for your doggo, a pack of Pedigree Dentastix treats are also on sale at half price. I’ve been minding dogs for the past two years and have yet to come across one who does not like these.
Balance those treats out with some healthy items on sale at IGA. Like new season Australian large peaches (red or white) for $6.99 a kilo. Delicious and healthy. There’s also Australian asparagus at just $1.49 a bunch and Aussie-grown washed potatoes at only $3.69 per kilo.

My best deal is to not take a part in this. I have no need for anything going ‘on sale’.
