Celebrate the 2024 Olympics with these deals

It’s the last week of July, which can mean only one thing: the 2024 Olympic Games are about to begin! Yes, if you’re a sports nut get ready for a fortnight of broken sleep as the Paris Games capture you. Even non-sports nuts can get caught up in the Olympic spirit, suddenly spouting phrases like ‘half twist in pike position’. By the end of the games, you too could be an expert.

If you’re planning on taking in the Olympics on-screen, there are a few essentials you’ll need. A nice big TV with a crisp picture might be the most important of those. In fact, it took the 1980 Olympics to convince my dad to be dragged into the colour TV era.

We took delivery of a National Panasonic ‘Quintrix’ colour television on the eve of the Moscow Olympics. That TV – complete with its modern (for 1980) faux dark wood panel cabinet – changed my life.

This week YourLifeChoices has uncovered a few TV options that could help you replicate that feeling at great prices. Here’s a look at some of those, and a few other Olympic-themed deals to help you through Week 1 of the Paris Games.

Olympics on the big (TV) screen

I have no idea if Dad got a good deal on his National Panasonic in 1980. However, JB Hi-Fi can provide you with some in time for the 2024 Paris games. Whether you’re after a small TV to watch the games in the den or a big screen for the family, there are specials to be had.

For the den, consider the Hisense 32″ A4NAU HD Smart TV. This 2024 model has had $100 knocked off its ticket price of $345. A brand new smart TV for just $245? That’ll get your heart racing as much as watching Ariarne Titmus claiming gold for Australia in the 200m freestyle!

If you’re looking at the top end of the television range, check out the LG 65″ OLED EVO C4 4K UHD Smart TV (2024). UHD stands for ultra-high definition and, once you’ve experienced it, you won’t want to go back. While UHD models don’t come cheap, this model for $3495 is $800 off the ticket price. That’s a big saving for a TV from a quality manufacturer.

JB Hi-Fi’s range of TV specials covers the full spectrum from the small Hisense to the big LG. See them all here and choose your own ‘gold medal’ deal.

Bob Jane T-Marts

Thanks to my brain having a long history of involuntarily playing word association games, the word Olympic makes me think of tyres. Olympic Tyres was a prominent brand when I was a kid, and I was surprised to find it no longer exists.

But the tyre link to the Olympics lives on through Beaurepaires. Sir Frank Beaurepaire was an Olympic swimming medallist at several games. The last of those was, appropriately, at the 1924 Paris games. Sir Frank actually founded the Olympic Tyre and Rubber company in 1933.

Unfortunately, Beaurepaires doesn’t have any current sales running, but it does have a price-match promise.

One tyre supplier that does have a sale on right now is Bob Jane T-Marts. Through Bob you can get three big-name brands – Bridgestone, Yokohama and Khumo – for a great price. If you buy three tyres you’ll get the fourth one free!

Bob Jane also has several great cash-back offers to consider. Buy Bridgestone or Pirelli for up to $150 off, or get up to $200 back if you buy four or more Michelin tyres.

The full range of Bob Jane T-Marts specials is available here.

My French Grocery

If you’re going to get into the Olympics, why not fully immerse yourself in the entire Paris experience through My French Grocery online?

You can crack open a packet of Belin Cheese Cracker Croustilles while enjoying the opening ceremony. These have been marked down from $5.58 to $5.00. Or how about some Sundy Dark Chocolate Candy Bars from Nestlé. You won’t find these at your local supermarket, and they’ve been reduced to $5.74 for a pack of five bars, down from $7.87.

Check out the full range of My French Grocery specials at the website here. Click on the ‘Sales’ tab to see the currently discounted range.
