Follow the six easy steps

While travelling home from doing her shopping, Sharon went to cross the road. Just as she had almost reached the other side, a car came along and struck her, causing her very serious injuries.

Sharon followed the six basic steps and was able to get excellent support from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and a generous outcome – over $240,000 in compensation.

What Sharon did:

  1. Her accident was reported to the police by the ambulance called to the scene. When she was able to give her version of the accident, she did so in a short and concise way.
  2. Her TAC claim was made for her at hospital in a timely fashion.
  3. The claim form contained the same short, concise and accurate description of the accident.
  4. She did not try to list all of her injuries as many were still developing after the accident. Instead she stated this fact in the claim form.
  5. She gave an accurate statement detailing her medical history.
  6. She engaged a specialist personal injury law firm – Henry Carus + Associates – who secured the needed evidence (especially photos) to show what had happened to Sharon on that day.

Sharon did not know about common law compensation and the role that the TAC plays in such compensation. It was the early engagement of Henry Carus + Associates and the thought process followed by the team that made all the difference in the final compensation Sharon received.
