Great deals for those staying home or going away

A change is as good as a holiday, so the old saying goes. But why not consider both? This week the opportunity to combine the two has presented itself thanks to Jetstar. The Aussie airline has announced its Kiwi Sale, offering some fares to New Zealand at very attractive prices.

Of course if you’re about to ‘cross the ditch’ you’ll want to make sure your luggage is well looked after. Then best way to that is with some quality suitcases and bags. Strandbags, can help you with that, and their July sale will help you do so on a budget.

If you’re staying home, July is a good time to review and stock up your fresh produce pantry. As certain types of fruit and vegetables come into season, there are bargains to be had, and delicious meals and treats to be prepared without breaking the bank. We’ll take a look at the cheapest and best fresh food to bring home right now.

Jetstar Kiwi Sale

Look, I can’t promise the weather in New Zealand will be any warmer than Australia’s in the next couple of months. In fact, I can almost guarantee it won’t be. I can, however, assure you that there are some spectacular sights to be seen across the ditch, and Jetstar’s Kiwi Sale can help you see them for less.

The Kiwi Sale offers you the opportunity of seeing out winter with a visit to our next door neighbour. The discount airfares on offer for flights in August and September include four major destinations – Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown and Wellington.

Best of all, these are available for flights out of multiple locations down Australia’s east coast, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Examples of some of the great fares on offer include Gold Coast to Wellington from $169, Sydney to Queenstown from $209, Brisbane to Auckland from $175, and Melbourne to Christchurch from $189.

There are plenty of other combinations on offer, too, with the full range available for viewing here.

One warning, though. If these prices look good to you, get cracking, because the Kiwi Sale ends this Monday, 22 July.

Strandbags luggage and more

With the savings made through the Kiwi Sale, perhaps consider updating the bags in which you’ll be carrying your luggage. Thanks to Strand, you’ll be able to do so at discount prices.

For your suitcase needs, Strand is offering two sizes of the American Tourister case (with wheels) at below half price! The 68 cm model has been reduced from $340 to just $169. Meanwhile, its bigger sibling (80 cm), is now just $189 – down from $380.

But it’s not just suitcases that have had prices knocked down. Strand has tote bags, crossbody bags, shoulder bags, backpacks, wallets, passbook covers and more, all on special. Check out the full range of sale items here.

And don’t forget, Strand also offers a range of other travel accessories, such as international power adaptors. If you’re planning to jet out of Australia, a visit to Strand beforehand could be very beneficial.

Fresh produce specials

On the other hand, you might be looking to stay put in Australia until the warmer weather comes along. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, this is a great time of year to take stock of what’s in your pantry, and stock up on seasonal produce.

The Guardian’s Maddie Thomas says July is a great time to check out a heap of fruit and veg that are in season. This includes apples, broccoli, oranges and potatoes. All of these just happen to be highlights in the newest Woolworths catalogue

At Woolies Australian ‘Envy’ apples are just $4.90 a kilo, and a 3kg pack of Australian navel oranges costs $5.90. That works out to just $1.97 a kilo, a very cost effective way of keeping up your winter vitamin C intake.

On the vegie front, Woolworths has you covered with broccoli at $2.50 per bunch. That’s more vitamin C, as well as vitamins A and K, at a very healthy price. Meanwhile a 2kg bag of washed potatoes for $4 provides you with more vitamin C, along with some vitamin B6.

All up, Woolies’ fresh fruit and veg offers a very cheap way of getting healthy and natural serves of vitamins at great prices.

See you next week, as the Olympics get underway and we’ll race to find you some more great deals!
