One of Aldi’s most popular sales has made a comeback after two years.
Supply chain difficulties and lack of demand post-pandemic meant Aldi’s annual door-busting ski sale didn’t go ahead and customers were not happy.
Online Aldi groups have been lamenting the absence of the sale, but the grocery group has announced it will go ahead this year, beginning 20 May.
That’s good news, because a cold snap has already brought snow to some parts of Australia.
What makes this sale so popular is of course price, which comes in at a fraction of specialist snow suppliers.
It also holds great appeal for families. Not surprisingly, many families with children find it expensive to replace snow gear each year as they grow out of last year’s gear.
This Aldi sale keeps the kids rugged up at an affordable price, with prices ranging between $5 and $120.
And while it’s called a snow sale, the range covers everything from thermal underwear to gloves and includes jackets, socks, and beanies suitable for everyday cold weather wear.
“Aldi’s buying team partners with experts in Austria to ensure our range is made to suit weather conditions from the Alps to Australia,” an Aldi spokesperson told news.com.
This is one sale I urge you to go as early as you can, it’s ridiculously popular and the good lines are picked over very early, leaving a messy pile that seems to be an Aldi speciality.
This week’s best deals
IGA
Sensible: Don Bacon, selected varieties, 200g, $5.90 a pack. It always boggles my mind what some advertisers think is okay to include in the Mother’s Day marketing. IGA has this in its “show mum she’s No. 1” section. I mean, I love bacon, but I think I speak for most women that I might like a teensy bit more than a pre-pack of small goods.
Indulgence: Ferrero Rocher gift box, half price, $8. This is more like it. It’s a rare human who doesn’t like an occasional Ferrero Rocher. And these gift boxes are perfect for sharing.

Woolworths
Sensible: Twinings Tea Bag 10-pack varieties half price $1.50. Most of us buy our favourite tea in bigger packs, but every now and then the urge for a herbal tea or flavour burst overcomes you. That’s where these delish little packs come in handy. I love a chai on a cold afternoon.
Indulgence: Guylian Seashells, half price $9. Some of the best supermarket box chocolates. Great price for a product that lasts about half an hour at our place.

Coles
Sensible: Massel Gourmet Liquid Stock, half price, $2. Winter is soup season, so stock up now to have them in your pantry when you need them.
Indulgence: Darrell Lea Mother’s Day Gift bag, $17, save $6. Never pay full price for these, they always go on special. Certainly more appropriate than a pack of bacon.

Aldi
Sensible: Broad Oak Farms Turkey Mince, $4.99 per 500g. Good low-fat alternative to other minces with plenty of flavour. Great in Asian dishes.
Indulgence: Allen’s Jelly Beans or Retro Party Mix, 1kg $10.99. Should this be in the indulgence or sensible section? I’m still not sure. I love the retro party mix as it doesn’t contain lolly bananas, those dusty, chalky bites of disappointment.
