A classic snack gets a new twist in Australia

Ah, the sweet taste of nostalgia! There’s nothing quite like a trip down memory lane, especially when it involves the snacks we cherished in our youth. And for those of us who’ve been around the block a few times, we know that some treats never go out of style – they just get reinvented. Well, hold onto your hats, because a classic is making a grand re-entry onto Aussie shelves, and it’s sure to stir up some fond memories and delicious excitement.

KitKat, the chocolate brand known for its catchy jingle and irresistible layers of wafer and chocolate, is taking us back to the days of ice cream trucks and summer holidays with their latest creation: the Neapolitan KitKat. That’s right, the tri-coloured ice cream favourite is now encapsulated in a chocolate bar, and it’s set to sweeten up our summer in the most delightful way.

The Neapolitan KitKat is a marvel of confectionery innovation, featuring a trifecta of flavours that will transport you straight back to your childhood. The white chocolate represents the creamy vanilla, while a pink-hued chocolate stands in for the strawberry, all lovingly embraced by a layer of classic milk chocolate on the back. It’s a symphony of flavours that’s both familiar and exciting, a true homage to the iconic ice cream.

Social media influencer Nectro, known as @nectoriouspapi online, was one of the lucky few to sample this treat ahead of its widespread release. His verdict? It’s like digging your spoon into the heart of a Neapolitan ice cream tub, capturing all three flavours in one glorious scoop – but with the added crunch of KitKat’s signature wafer. For those who love a medley of tastes in one bite, this chocolate bar is a dream come true.

The buzz on social media is palpable, with users expressing their eagerness to indulge in this ‘nostalgic’ treat. Comments range from excited anticipation to creative suggestions, like combining the chocolate with actual ice cream for an even more decadent experience. And for those who always felt a twinge of guilt for leaving the strawberry behind, this KitKat ensures every flavour gets its moment in the spotlight.

Priced at $2.50 for a small treat and $7 for a block, the KitKat Neapolitan is an affordable luxury that’s bound to become a staple in many Australian homes. Melanie Chen, Nestlé Head of Marketing Confectionery, shares the enthusiasm, stating, ‘We’re excited to launch KitKat Neapolitan for the summer season – it’s a trifecta of taste. With the new chocolate featuring classic flavours, it’s bound to spark a debate over which iconic ice-cream inspired flavour comes out on top.’

But it’s not just about the flavours; it’s also about sustainability. Last year, Nestlé, which owns Allen’s, made a significant change to their beloved red packaging, opting for a matte finish that reduced the amount of plastic used. This move reflects a growing trend towards environmental consciousness in the food industry, and it’s one that resonates with consumers who are increasingly looking for brands that align with their values.

Ms. Chen emphasised the importance of this shift, saying, ‘Allen’s lollies are here to bring smiles to Australians, and we want to keep doing that while reducing our impact on the environment, with a focus on reducing the amount of plastic we have in our packaging.’

Are you excited to try the Neapolitan KitKat? What other nostalgic snacks would you like to see make a comeback? Share your thoughts and memories with us, and let’s revel in the sweet taste of nostalgia together.
