Major shakeup for popular breakfast brand

Say farewell to Kellogg’s, and say hello to Kellanova.

The breakfast staple company has rebranded in Australia, a decision which is the result of the US giant splitting the group into two companies.

The US section will concentrate on breakfast cereals and the Australian division will still keep its cereals, but plans on moving into the snack market.

Kellanova managing director Anthony Holme told The Sydney Morning Herald it meant more choice for consumers.

“Many more people are eating on the go,” he said. “People are moving through the day faster. They don’t necessarily want the same format of food … and we need to answer to that.”

Kellanova will also look at introducing brands in its global portfolio that aren’t yet in Australia, which include Cheez-Its, Rice Krispie treats, RXBAR, Eggo, and plant-based brands Incogmeato and Gardenburger.

Sounds like a lot of highly processed stuff to me. Remember, there’s always a carrot if you are hungry.

This week’s best deals

IGA

Sensible: Hass Avocados, $1.29 each. So cheap you could afford a smashed avo on toast and a mortgage.

Indulgence: Peter’s Drumsticks, $4.70, save $5.70. A ridiculously good savings on an excellent product. The mini ones are a fab treat after dinner. Grab a boysenberry flavour and pretend you are at the movies.

Coles

Sensible: Ayam coconut milk, $2.30, save 60c. It’s been a long time since coconut milk was on special. I’ve been looking every week for months. My life is full of tragic facts like this. Grab a few cans to stock the pantry.

Indulgence: Lamb cutlets, $33/kg, save $10/kg. Lamb continues its downward slide due to a massive oversupply in the market. Lambs are selling for $1 each at saleyards. Eat your way out of the glut with these prices. Better yet, give in to your inner caveman and buy a whole lamb from a butcher and cut it up yourself.

Aldi

Sensible: Bakers Life Spiced Fruit Buns, $3.69. Otherwise known as hot cross buns. This gets a guernsey because it’s in the ‘limited time’ section but it’s been available since Easter. What’s Aldi’s idea of ‘limited time’ I wonder? Turn of the century?

Indulgence: Indian week. A bunch of Indian foods, probably not for the purists, but ideal for the home cook who wants a curry pronto and doesn’t want to spend two days making it. Also weirdly in this section is a Ferrero Rocher 16-pack. Is this a hitherto unknown curry ingredient?

Woolworths

Sensible: Blueberries, $2.50 a punnet. It’s been a long time since blueberries were under $3 a punnet. Great fresh but also good frozen for smoothies if you want to buy some at this price and store them. Weird blueberry fact, blueberries are one of the only foods which are naturally blue in colour. But just the skin. The interior and juice are green. Blue and greenberries just doesn’t have the same kind of ring about it though, does it?
