Baked Spaghetti Bolognese

Sometimes we crave comfort, and our Baked Spaghetti Bolognese offers exactly that – with cheese, carbs and minced meat. Enjoy it on its own or serve with a leafy salad.

Serves: 4–6

Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 400g spaghetti
  • 400g ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 jar pasta sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoonsea salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 300g ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Cook spaghetti according to packet instructions.

While the spaghetti is cooking, cook the beef, onion and garlic in a large pan over medium heat for 10 minutes, or until the meat is cooked. Then pour in the pasta sauce and season with salt, pepper and oregano.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, Parmesan cheese and butter. Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain it and add the egg mixture and mix well.

Next, put half of the spaghetti mixture into a greased baking dish and top with half of the ricotta cheese, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Then repeat the layers. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for 10 minutes longer until cheese is melted. Serve straight away and keep the leftovers for another meal.
