Serves: 2-4
Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
-
650g lean steak, cut into slivers
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
50g butter
-
2 onions, thinly sliced
-
300g button mushrooms, finely sliced
-
3 tablespoon brandy
-
450ml lite soured cream
-
Juice of 1/2 lemon
-
1 cup flour
-
1 tablespoon paprika
-
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method
In a bowl, mix flour and paprika. Place beef in bowl and cover in flour mix.
Heat some vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Brown the meat in two batches and set aside in a separate bowl.
Reduce heat and melt butter in pan. Add the onions and gently fry until transparent.
Add the mushrooms to the onions and fry briskly until tender. Add the meat with any juices and the Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the brandy and immediately set alight and shake the pan until the alcohol has burnt itself out.
Stir in the soured cream and, as soon as it is hot, stir in the lemon juice, season to taste and sprinkle with a little paprika.
Serve immediately with fluffy white rice, pasta or a baked potato.
