Eggnog is a traditional Christmas drink which is great to serve as a welcome to guests visiting your home. You can, of course, buy the shop-bought version but where’s the fun in that?
Ingredients (Serves eight)
- 4 fresh eggs, separated
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup rum
- 1 & 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup bourbon
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ground nutmeg
Method
Beat egg yolks together with half the sugar and set aside. Whisk egg whites until stiff, then gently add in the remaining sugar. Pour the yolks into the whites and mix together gently. Gently stir in the rum, followed by the milk and then the bourbon. Stir in half the cream. Slowly whip the remaining cream and fold in. Ladle the eggnog into tall glass cups and serve at room temperature, sprinkled with nutmeg on the top.
