I actually went into my local bank branch last week – yes there is still a branch in a suburb near me. I wanted to close several accounts that I no longer use and that was the only way. And yes, the wait was long.
However, it was well worth the visit. I was told about ANZ Plus – “ANZ’s new digital bank designed to improve your financial wellbeing”, the promotional material reads.
It’s a totally separate entity to ANZ and, as per the promo, is entirely digital. I don’t live in a cave and I’ve been an ANZ customer for decades. Why had I not heard of this? Why had the bank not sent a notification?
ANZ Plus actually offers a decent interest rate – 3.75 per cent and all other important features check out. Shame – and not a shame – that I’d already opened an account elsewhere, with a similar interest rate, because of ANZ’s pitiful interest rate on regular accounts.
My point is, when the ACCC is investigating banks and low interest rates on savings accounts, I should not have had to go into a branch to accidentally find out about a much better option. Sand no, this isn’t meant to be an ad for this bank.
Do you have any similar stories? Do you still go into a branch from time to time?
