Bunnings has announced it will be pulling all engineered stone products from its shelves, after evidence has shown its links to a fatal disease, news.com.au is reporting.
Engineered stone will no longer be sold in Bunnings stores after 31 December following a damning report on the health effects from the stone published by Safe Work Australia.
Evidence shows inhaling dust caused by the cutting of engineered stone can lead to developing silicosis, an incurable and potentially fatal disease.
Jen Tucker, Bunnings director of merchandise, said they made the decision before their hand was forced by law changes.
“While there has been clear indication from NSW and other state governments that they will legislate a ban on the product, we are proactively making this decision to allow suppliers and customers time to prepare for a transition,” she said.
