It’s been touted as a cure-all for everything from chronic pain to anxiety and now a new study has demonstrated CBD oil – extracted from cannabis plants – is even effective at preventing sunburn.
In the small study of 19 participants, subjects with the palest skin were selected (according to the Fitzpatrick skin type chart) and given two creams – one containing CBD oil and the other without it – and told to apply one cream to the left buttock and the other to the right each day for 14 days.
After two weeks of rubbing cream on their bums, the participants were then exposed to up to three times as much UV light as it normally takes to cause sunburn.
When skin biopsies were performed 24 hours later, the results showed 21 per cent of subjects had less sun damage on the buttock with CBD oil than on the other. DNA damage, which occurs during sun damage and can eventually cause cancer, was also less on the buttocks treated with CBD oil.
It’s certainly an interesting result, but most people don’t get a lot of direct sunlight on the behinds. How effective would it be on more exposed areas?
