You can make your own pudding, but it takes ages and often it’s just another task before Christmas.

If you have decided to buy a pudding this year, but the selection is overwhelming, consumer advocate group CHOICE has just made your life easier by rating the popular supermarket puddings.

Top of the CHOICE favourites is Coles’ Finest Luxury Christmas Pudding with a taste rating of 84 per cent, for $12.99. Sounds great, but it’s made in New Zealand.

Next up is the The Traditional Plum Pudding Co. Homemade Plum Pudding, with an approval rate of 78 per cent and coming in at a whopping $36 and made from “at least 45 Australian ingredients”.

Third tastiest is the Newcastle Pudding Lady Traditional Christmas Pudding, with a rating of 74 per cent, $31 and made from at least 90 per cent Australian ingredients.

So at the other end, worst on the list was Itha’s Pudding’s Traditional Pudding at 47 per cent.

I never buy anything from New Zealand any more since I found out they import most of their stuff from China in bulk, repack it and label it as their own produce! NOOO, THANK YOU!!!
$36 and $31 are ridiculous prices for a pudding, so it is better to make your own – which is simple enough. You can also make sure you use Aussie ingredients!

Although this recipe says “booze-free and no soaking required” fruit soaked overnight in your favourite grog is always an improvement – or orange juice as a possible alternative! Enjoy!!!
