If your car radio station is permanently tuned to a golden oldies, or classic rock station, chances are that your musical tastes are stuck in the soothing sounds of another decade – and maybe that’s just the way you like it.
But if you’re one of those people who has a top 10 of best-ever albums ready to reel off to anyone you think could benefit from your impressive musical knowledge, are you also open to the idea of listening to a suggested Top 10 from a younger music fan?
Or is your record collection a one-way street?
Discovering new music can be a fun way to stay in touch with the younger people in your life but it does force you to ask yourself some important questions – and give honest answers. Like, do you even know who Abel Tesfaye (known as The Weeknd) is? And do you care?
When it comes to sharing your love of the classics with the younger generation in your life, what songs/artists do you think are must-listens? And what new music have you discovered recently?

Very little good popular music came out after 1973.
That’s why I love listening to the music of the ’60s & early ’70s. The music has catchy beats, you can understand the lyrics and can chose the volume to suit your mood. Steve O.

Well…I am a fan of lots of music post-1973. David Bowie…Paul Kelly…Bruce Springsteen…Billy Bragg…Paul McCartney and Wings…Fleetwood Mac. Just to name some other artists that have been around for lots of years.
I do have a soft spot for the 1960s, though.
Do you have a favourite radio station that plays your favourite music? Or do you just give your vinyl collection a spin?
