Do you know about the Australian Death Notification Service (ADNS)? If the answer is no, you’re not the only one.

The service is a pretty nifty idea for people dealing with both grief and the overwhelming paperwork and administration of dealing with a close one’s death.

How it works is once you have registered a death, you can then lodge the details with the service, add in the organisations you want to be notified of a death, and they will do the hard work for you.

There’s a few drawbacks however. It doesn’t cover all organisations, only ones that have signed up for the service, but more organisations are joining all the time.

Participating organisations include banks, super funds, utilities, local councils, government bodies, insurance funds, services such as the NRMA and education facilities.

And one online review said the service simply closed off their partner’s bank account and they needed access to it to sort out automatic payments that were no longer required, so maybe sort out banking first.

But otherwise, what a great idea. One less thing to worry about when you least need to.

Would you use this service? Do you know anyone who has?
