If you’re a resident of Queensland, you may be entitled to part of more than $200 million in unclaimed funds currently held by the Public Trustee of Queensland.
If you’ve ever shopped for appliances or furniture, paid a bill for electricity or water, rented a home or used a toll road – you could be owed money.
When a business or company owes customers money but can’t locate the, the unclaimed funds go to the Public Trustee after a certain period of time.
Money winds up with the Public Trustee because customers change their details – bank accounts, addresses or name changes.
Samay Zhouand, CEO of the Public Trustee of Queensland, told 9News some people have really significant sums waiting for them.
“(There are) hundreds, thousands, and in some cases, hundreds of thousands waiting for them,” he said.
“Last year we connected 2000 Queenslanders to $3.3 million and this year we want Queenslanders to beat that.”
