I know this is a subject that polarises people but I’m game enough to have an opinion on it regardless of the fallout. I read in today’s press that the NSW Government set up an independent economic expert panel to identify barriers to women’s economic participation and financial security. Their report has been handed down and it holds no great suprises for me. As far as I can ascertain, the panel has 5 females and 1 male which shows an immediate bias.
The panel wants a government tender process that makes a concerted effort to choose companies that have lots of women on the board, or are owned or run by women. Simply put, this is discrimination which is against spending government funds to achieve the greatest saving for the best result. The panel also identified that women want compulsory superannuation payments to be made when women are on parental leave. This means that women who are not working want to be paid by an employer who is not getting any benefit from the employee. The panel erroneously claims that this is a federal government responsibility. Governments don’t pay compulsory superannuation, employers do.
Then, of course, the mythical “gender pay gap” gets a run. I say mythical because the women’s lobby group has used statistics to suit their purposes. Throughout Australia, all Awards and Workplace Agreements do not show gender but only refer to employees. The way the figures for men and women are achieved is that tax returns are used to show income and are adjusted for part-time workers by extrapolating the amount to a 38 hour week. What are not adjusted are those who work overtime who don’t have the extra income deducted to create a level playing field. Statistics also show that men are more likely to work overtime than women so the figures become skewed.
The panel also disclosed that women worked 19% fewer hours than men in 2019. This is understandable because women make up the bulk of the casual workforce. It should be noted that a large percentage of women in the casual workforce have chosen to work that way as it suits their family situation. But, the panel has raised this as an issue to try and highlight that women are disadvantaged when compared to men in the workforce.
As a male, I get annoyed with those who claim that women want to be equal when, in fact, they want more than men have got. They want equality in the workforce by making all jobs 50/50 male and female which sounds good but they won’t allow men only to be employed until the 50/50 is achieved in teaching or nursing which is female dominated. They want to be paid for not working by having superannuation paid by their employer when they are on parental leave. Labor politician Plibersek is on record as wanting female employees to be paid 15% compulsory superannuation while men should remain on 12%. That’s equality?
I worked with females all of my working life and I have never felt that either gender was superior. Women are better at some things than men and vice versa and employers have slotted people into the positions that suit them best. I have worked under female superiors, been in charge of female employees and I have tried to promote the best person suited for a position. Those with qualifications, experience and ability should be employed regardless of gender. I find it passing curious that women think that by getting paid more than men somehow makes them equal.

“I find it passing curious that women think that by getting paid more than men somehow makes them equal” ( Horace Cope).
That makes no sense to me!
If a woman is getting more than men…it means, they are more qualified for the job than the man and more deserving of the extra pay!

When I read this, Sophie, I must say I agreed with it. The point about women being paid more than men was made when the writer pointed out that women want to be paid super when they are not working and a Labor politician wants women to be paid a higher super rate than men.

Surely the rate of super payment is exactly equal now- mandated by law currently 10%. If you are fortunate enough to work in an organisation that pays more than the mandated amount, it is equally applied to both men and women and those undecided! being paid more simply because you identify as female is discrimination of the highest order. I can see it now, half the male population declaring themselves ‘female’ to ‘earn’ the higher super. After all, you are not allowed to question the veracity of such a claim.

ROFLMAO tell me KSS, how are these men declaring themselves wimin? Are we having a rush on transgender ops??
Clear case of covid having an effect on you?

Yes Lucca, men ARE already making such a declaration and it cannot be challenged because trans people suffer trauma if you do. Consider the attempt at erasing ‘women’ and ‘girls’ with the renaming of pregnant women to pregnant people, breastfeeding becomes chest-feeding, the furore at the moment in women’s sport with ‘men’ demanding entry to female sports teams, schools dictating that terms such as ‘Mum and Mother’ be replaced with grown-ups, Adele at the recent UK awards being slammed for declaring she is proud to be and likes being a woman (because the best female singer award which she won has been renamed best singer award). All these things do nothing for women and even less for men.
And for your information, you do not have to choose to undergo transgender operations and body reassignment to declare yourself any gender you choose. However, due to the indoctrination of even primary school children, there is already a great increase in pharmaceutical therapeutic intervention in children as young as 10 – 11 to prevent puberty and an increase in gender reassignment surgery in those under 18! So yes, we are having a rush on transgender medical interventions.

Oh, KSS, you have given me a great idea. Hubby can state that he chooses to be known as a woman, we get divorced because I claim I don’t want to be married to a woman and we both get single pensions. He will my lodger, get a rent subsidy and the rent will be just below the amount I am allowed to earn without affecting my single pension.

As a woman, I totally agree with your statements, Horace!
Women should realise that quotas are actually slap-in-the-face sexist insults – an admittance that women can’t get the job/s in question on their skills/abilities, but only on their gender.
GENDER needs to be removed from the situation entirely.
Only then will true EQUALITY reign supreme!
Equality is about giving everyone an equal chance, not about giving everyone an equal result!
Don’t be upset for the result you didn’t get for the work you didn’t do!

Could not agree more. Very well said. As a woman I am very sad that our society is so focused on gender and not ability. I feel this is also somewhat emasculating to men and is actually tipping the inequality and bias in the other direction.

Yes, but they only earn 14% less then men. Anyone else think this doesn’t add up?
I absolutely disagree with the entire premise of only engaging with organisations that have more women than men on a Board or who do not have more women in senior positions within the organisation. You do not elevate one section at the expense of the other.
As Horace points out almost all industry operates on an industry award that does not discriminate between genders. If women not on an award i.e. management level, are still not paid equally with a male manager in the same workplace then surely you have to question the ability of the woman to negotiate their own salary and therefore the ability to do the job in the first place.
I do agree that parental leave should be equally available to both parents say 6 months each (making a year in total) and that men should be encouraged to use it to care for their child. At least that would be one excuse removed!

Well locked in bias in favour of women is entrenched in our Society. The argument of discrimination to justify greedy self centred preferential treatment is appaqlling. In old fashioned terminology such actions contirming your character is a certain way to lose respect. To cry that women get little respect from men is immature. Respect is earned. It is not an ‘entitlement’.
Cries of generational discrimination by men against women by men is delusional. It was Australian men who lost the 103,000 lives in both World Wars. Women less than 1,000. 19 year old boys were subject to conscription for Vietnam. In the old dyas it was men who earned the family income with 6 and 7 days work a week, at 2 jobs or more. It is why men make up 48% of the population and women 52%. In education today women make up 60% of University entrants and men 40%, paricularly after STEM altered curriculums to suit girls.
Frankly women need a wake up call. To be an Australian white male is on the bottom rung of the ladder, with steps on your forehead to ensure you have a subordinant place in our culture in permanancy. And when it is applied through our school system it is bullying to the enth degree, by adult women over young and infant boys.

Personally, I believe women should be in the kitchen, taking care of their husbands, looking after the kids, meeting me at the door with my slippers (I prefer my brown fluffy ones).
Let the ladies out of the kitchen and they want to take over the world.

Your own description of how you think women should behave just goes to prove how powerful women have become Lucca. You would clearly be totally unable to survive without the little woman in your kitchen clutching your brown fluffy slippers awaiting your return. I just hope the bacon you are meant to bring home is worth the wait!
