Domestic violence (DV) charity Broken Crayons Still Colour (BCSC) is calling for donations and government support as it looks to open Australia’s first DV shelter dedicated to men.

Rach Mac, founder and director of BCSC, says she was inspired to open the men’s shelter after meeting male DV victims and hearing some of their stories.

She told WA Today she realised there was a gap when it came to supporting men, who are often not listened to when it comes to abuse allegations.

“We just need people to start taking this issue seriously,” she said.

“Statistically, women are being killed and having serious incidents much more often than men. However, males do suffer domestic violence.”

“And it’s often the stigma that’s attached to it – that you’re supposed to be the tough guy – that stops them from reporting it.”

Figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) show one in 18 men has experienced physical or sexual violence at the hands of a current or previous partner, and one in seven had experienced verbal or emotional abuse.

It’s about time, and there should be more of them Australia wide.
I know of two Males who were the victims of DV, both where Hospitalized, one with a Broken Nose and both with Severe Facial Bruising and Bruising to other parts of their bodies.
Both instances reported to the” Police from the ED.
      Both Interviewed by the Police.
Both told to “Grow a Pair” and your supposed to be a man”. The reports where then filed and NO Action taken.
If it had been the other way round, They would have been arrested and charged with assault.
One ended in Divorce, and the Judge believed her, “acting in self-defence” and he does NOT have access to his son.
He is now happily re-married with a beautiful wife and family.

      The other, a Family Member.
They where living in the rental property which was in his name, she refused to leave, therefore, in cooperation with the landlord/owner, he terminated the lease, and moved out, with the express condition that she could NOT take over the lease.
The Owner did some Maintenance/Upgrades on the Property and he moved back in six months later.
