The Aussie Bird Count is an annual project for Bird Life Australia and last year 106,707 Australians counted 4,936,509 birds – a wonderful effort.
Bird Life Australia is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bird conservation. It’s primary purpose is to stop extinctions. The birds are one of the indicators of our country’s environmental health. Data indicates birds in decline, shifts in populations and birds that are gaining ground.
It’s easy and can take as little as 20 minutes to do a survey in your area. The more people who get on board, the more successful this will be. You can learn what bird it is with the free ‘The Aussie Bird Count’ app or on their website https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/
The bird count runs from 17 October to 23 October so register now. Who knows what birds you may find in your backyard?
