Gina Rinehart is currently suffering from the Streisand effect.

In case you are wondering that’s a phenomenon when your attempts to hide something make it even more visible.

It was named Barbra Streisand who tried to have a photo of her Malibu property suppressed, only to have the exact opposite happen.

She tried to sue the photographer who took the image, but the lawsuit was dismissed, she had to pay costs and the image was viewed more than 420,000 times in one month alone.

Well, it seems it’s Gina’s turn. Ms Rinehart wants a portrait of her taken down. To be honest, it’s not very flattering, but until I heard about her pressuring the gallery to remove the artwork I had never heard about the work or the artist.

For your information it’s by Archibald-prize winning indigenous artist Vincent Namatjira who has an exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra until 21 July.

Now people are flooding social media with the image, and it has hit every news source.
Maybe she should have just sucked it up. The portrait is part of a larger work which depicts many famous people, none of whom come up looking like the cover of Vogue.

The gallery has refused to remove the portrait. Ms Rinehart has donated almost $10,000 to the gallery in the past. But since the gallery lists more than 15 donors who have given the gallery $5 million or more, much less the more extensive list of donors in the $1M-$5M, I’m guessing that’s not buying much influence.

Do you think she’s gone too far?
