Free-range eggs are not cheap so you definitely don’t want to throw them out if the packaging says they’re past their best-before date. But how can you check to see if they’re still okay to eat?

Australian Farmers to the rescue. And you couldn’t get a more impeccable source.

They offer a quick and fun test for egg freshness. Pop the egg in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will stay at the bottom of the bowl while older eggs will float because of the large air cell that forms in its base.

      Easy as.

So how long do eggs last?

Australian Farmers says fresh eggs can be kept refrigerated for up to six weeks but says we should always check the use-by date on the carton. And it’s best to put eggs in the fridge as soon as you get them home.

How do you tell if an egg is fresh, it’s easy just ask it. More than likely the little bugger will sit there and look at you and say nothing, so drop him into a glass of water and see if he floats, that’ll wake him up. Cheers Jacka.
