Violence appears to increasing in NSW schools, but I’m sure there are similar figures for the rest of the country.
Apparently, police are called to NSW schools on average 10 times a day, which seems astonishing.
And as NSW Secondary Principals’ Council deputy president Denise Lofts says, those figures don’t represent general poor behaviour.
“It is the low-level classroom disruption which is very challenging,” she says.
Who’s to blame? I hate to be simplistic, but probably the parents. My observation of other parents often has me shaking my head. There seems to be a subset of parents who make it hard for the rest of us.
Of course you are always going to have problem kids, but often they have learned that behaviour at home.
Let’s get control of this early. I think everyone wants to have an education system the envy of the world.
