How do you feel about banning dangerous dogs

Frankly, I’m all for banning some dogs.

Dogo Argentinos, fila brasileiros, Japanese tosas, pit bulls and Perro de Presa Canarios are banned in some states.

Queensland also wants to ban them, but the government is receiving some push back from the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and the RSPCA, who both say there are better ways to reduce risk.

A report by the AVA stated: “a number of studies have been undertaken in the past decade that clearly question the proposition that certain breeds are inherently more aggressive than others”.

The AVA claims a breed on its own was not an effective indicator of aggression and neither DNA or appearance can accurately determine a dog’s breed.

Both of those points are probably true, but no one can deny a larger breed is going to be more dangerous than a Pomeranian.

Also those larger, reputedly aggressive breeds tend to attract a certain kind of owner.

Think of it this way, how many grannies do you see out walking their Rottweiler?

The older I get the more I say I don’t dislike dogs, but I very often dislike their owners.

Do you think certain dog breeds should be banned?

Yes. Certainly it is true that the training is most important, but why allow breeds that can be prone to be dangerous if not trained properly.
      There are plenty of others.
