I have a Chinese Lantern plant that I’ve grown from a cutting from my Nan’s yard. Her house has been sold and knocked down and it’s important to me that I get this plant growing and healthy so I can have a piece of my grandparent’s backyard, where I had/have so many happy memories.

But bloody snails keep ravaging it. I don’t know why they go for that one over the other pots.

Anyway, I’m not a huge fan of chemicals and snail bait, so I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for getting rid of, or preventing, snails in the garden?

I’ve used crushed egg shells in pots with some success.

PS: As a bonus as the egg shells break down they nourish the soil.

Put used coffee grounds about an inch away from the stem – spread in a circle around the plant – snails and slugs do not like the roughness of the coffee grounds & they have difficulty slithering over them!

I have yet to try this but on a recent radio gardening program they indicated a circle of Epson Salts around the plant is usually successful
