Most Aussies have a myGov account. It gives online access to a range of government services, such as Medicare, the ATO and Centrelink, in one place. But some find it a necessary evil largely due to the proliferation of messages that land in your inbox.
But that’s all changing, according to government services minister Bill Shorten. He says an upgraded system – that “has been years in the making” – will be easier to use and won’t send users bouncing between services.
“No more annoying myGov inbox messages which then send you somewhere else to go somewhere else and you’re chasing your tail all day long,” he said.
He explained that the mobile app would use the phone’s security infrastructure rather than the government’s own authentication, making it safer.
It will also include a digital wallet and eventually will be able to be used as a form of ID for companies or services that require multiple points of identification, Nine News reports.
“This shouldn’t be revolutionary news, but for government services in this country we have just taken a quantum leap forward,” Mr Shorten said.
You can download the app from the Apple or Google Play stores now.
