It’s got a reputation for being boring, but Canberra has been recognised as having the second highest quality of life in the world.
A new report from economic advisory form Oxford Economics listed our capital second only to Grenoble, France. Bern, Switzerland was third. Canberra was the only non-European city in the top 10. Melbourne came in at 185th place and Sydney in 230rd place.
Oxford Economics said Canberra’s “impressive feat” was driven by the city’s high incomes and low degree of income inequality, due to the availability of stable and high paying government jobs.
Oxfords Economics also ranked ‘best cities’ overall, with New York coming in first, just ahead of London. Melbourne came in at 9th and Sydney at 16th.
“Melbourne has in the last two decades been catching up to Sydney in aspects ranging from economics to population size,” the report stated.
“Because of its many art galleries and the fact that it hosts major sports events such as the Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix – Melbourne is widely considered to be the cultural and sporting capital of Australia.”
If you could live anywhere in Australia, where would it be?
