Forty-year veteran of Australian television Larry Emdur has finally taken out the Gold Logie Award for TV’s most popular personality.

It’s been a long time coming for a man who dubbed himself ‘television’s most axed man’ who has hosted a seemingly endless line of game shows and talk shows since the 1980s, including The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and even Celebrity Dog School. He is currently the host of two top-rating programs on Channel 7, The Morning Show and The Chase.

He beat out Tony Armstrong, Julia Morris, Robert Irwin, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Sonia Kruger for the top gong, and told the audience he would honour a promise he made on The Morning Show to “have all the nominees’ initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow morning”, and true to his word, he did just that on Monday morning.

It’s fantastic that Larry Emdur has finally been recognised, but it does feel long overdue. Are there any other Aussie TV personalities who should have won a Gold Logie by now?
