The Reserve Bank of Australia has announced that $1 billion in physical cash has left the Australian economy as we slowly move towards a cash-free economy.

I don’t know about you, but I still make a point of using cash.

For bigger purchases, yes of course I’m going to use a card or bank transfer, but if I want to buy a few rolls for my lunch, then it seems ridiculous to tap a card for a few dollars.

Maybe people are also gone back to stashing cash under the mattress as the amount of data breaches seems to increase every day. The thought of someone getting into my bank account and draining all the cash out sends shivers down my spine.

Do you still use cash? Why are you still hanging on to banknotes and coins?

Until such time as children are issued cards we will need cash for things like tuckshop.

Until anybody that at present does odd jobs dies out there will always be a need for cash and of course if your not into phone tech where it can be hacked at any time. People are so stupid shifting all their cards onto their phones as they are so vulnerable to attack from somebody just walking past nthem on the street.

Cash is king. If I get scammed $50 in cash I won’t loose my life savings. I don’t have to pay a surcharge at restaurants, stores, supermarkets etc. If businesses refuse cash then I insist any fees for using debit card are waved or 5% discount given. If this isn’t acceptable then I walk. The business has just lost custom and a sale.
I use cash for everything and the government can’t rack my whereabouts, or financial transactions etc. Stores, companies, banks, financial institutions etc can’t make extra money from selling my transaction history or bombard me with selected advertising etc.
My financial privacy is my business not anyone else.
Look what happened when the CBA went down last month and stranded 1.000’s of people with no way to pay for basics like morning coffee, bread, milk, fuel etc. Some were left stranded and service stations after filling their vehicles then found out they couldn’t pay. Very inconvenient for both customer and retailer.
      Keep cash alive
