The state government will be easing the rules to build a granny flat in Victoria.
As part of a raft of changes to planning controls, dwelling garden units won’t require a planning permit if they’re less than 60 square metres.
And the government will also introduce more permit exemptions for single dwellings for things such as extensions to sheds and carports.
Many people love the idea of a granny flat, but often the reality is completely different.
I once spoke to a builder who said he loved putting in granny flats, because usually within two years he was paid to remove them.
He said sometimes the elderly parent had to go into care, but mostly the relationship broke down and other arrangements were made.
Would you ever consider building a granny flat?
