Silent walking is – apparently – a thing. Well, TikTok says it is.

Silent walking! The things that millennials and gen Y ‘discover’.

The trend has popped up on TikTok and touts the benefits.

In case you were wondering, it’s walking without headphones or any audio distractions. And for some, it is, apparently, a new concept.

Podcaster and content creator Mady Maio posted on TikTok about her journey discovering the benefits of a silent walk. It received a mixed reaction online.

“My boyfriend challenged me to walk without distractions … no AirPods, no podcasts, no music. Just me myself and I,” she told the ABC.

Ms Maio explained that the first two minutes of her walk was “mayhem”, but once she got into the groove without her headphones, something new happened.

“Your brain just gets into this flow state and everything is quiet,” she said.

She added that walking without audio distractions allowed her to hear her thoughts, and she felt more inspired than ever.

“If you are never alone with your thoughts and you never get quiet, you’re going to miss the whispers,” she said.

Psychologist Rupert Saunders says there are mental health benefits that come from being present in our surroundings, e.g. silent walking.

Are you a ‘silent walker’? Are you surprised younger generations are just considering that option?

Good grief!!! “Sient Walking” has been a thing since time began. It’s only in the last few decades that… 1st was a blaring radio sitting on your shoulder, then came the earphones, earpods etc. Some people these days can’t walk (or run or exercise) without their music or inspirational speeker playing in their ears.
It’s amazing what you see and hear when you “Silent Walk” … a new name for walking.
