Woolworths supermarkets has announced that confectionery will be removed from all checkouts nationally over the coming weeks.
The retail giant will also only offer healthier food choices with a Health Star Rating (HSR) of 3.5 or above for sale on the front and back of food aisles.
Woolworths says it is making the controversial move to help make it easier for customers to discover healthier food choices when shopping across the store.
Woolies says 80 per cent of checkout shelf space will also be dedicated to healthier options.
The introduction of healthier treats on the front and back of food aisles across Woolworths Supermarkets will be rolled out from the end of July.
Woolworths says it will continue to test and look to expand healthier options on aisle ends over the course of the year, based on customers’ responses.
