An ongoing problem is the shortage of GPs in country areas. It isn’t uncommon for local suburban clinics to have the problem of having enough doctors to service the local community. For country towns having to find additional money to pay doctors to come and reside in the area is difficult. My suggestion is for the federal government to work with the Australian Medical Association requiring ALL doctors graduating from their university, to be required to spend their first four years as a GP practising in clinics that require GPs to fill vacancies. Training to be a Specialist can only commence after four years as a GP.
