The federal government has announced new income limits for eligibility for the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC).
The new limits are $90,000 a year if you are single, $144,000 a year for couples and $180,000 a year for couples separated by illness, respite care or prison. Add $639.60 to these amounts for each child in your care.
There is no asset test for the card.
The previous income limits were $61,284 for singles, $98,054 for couples and $122,568 for couples separated by illness, respite care or prison.
The CSHC entitles people to cheaper medicine under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and various other benefits depending on which state you live in, including discounts on utility bills and public transport.
You must be of Age Pension age, meet residency and identity requirements and provide a tax file number to be eligible.
