The US election will be many things this year. But one topic guaranteed to dominate the headlines is age. Donald Trump is 77, Joe Biden is 81, with his age one of the biggest concerns for US voters.
But how old is too old to lead or be active? My dad is midway between the two at 79, is in good health and still earns an income buying and selling second hand instruments. My 84-year-old father-in-law was still running a fruit shop until a couple of years ago.
Robert De Niro is still making movies at 80 – although, granted, some of his choices on the quality of projects have been… questionable. Rupert Murdoch still towers over his media empire in his 90s. And the sadly recently departed Iris Apfel was still working as she hit her century.
So how old is too old to lead? Is there an age limit? Are you still working, or leading, long after the presumed retirement age? I’m keen to hear your thoughts
