An alcoholic seltzer drink is being urgently recalled due to concerns that excess carbonation and alcohol content may cause illness.
Moon Dog Brewery has been ordered to recall its 6 per cent seltzers in the summer berry and grape flavours due to secondary fermentation.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand says the products are hazardous because “products containing excess alcohol and carbonation may cause illness/injury if consumed”.
A Moon Dog spokesperson described the risk as “highly unlikely” and said no issues had been reported to the company.
The affected flavours can be bought within a mixed 10-pack or a mixed 3×10-pack and have been available for sale at Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars across all states and territories excluding Tasmania. It is only available at Liquorland stores in Tasmania.
The drinks include the best before dates of 1 August 2023, 2 August 2023 and 30 August 2023.
Food Standards Australia says: “Consumers should not drink or open this product, and should dispose of it safely.”
Anyone who purchased the affected product is asked to contact Moon Dog Brewery for safe disposal instructions and to arrange for reimbursement.
