Queen Elizabeth II’s official death certificate has been published by the National Records of Scotland, and reveals the cause of her death as simply ‘old age’.
In the UK, ‘old age’ can be listed as an official cause of death in very limited circumstances, such as when the certifying doctor has personally cared for someone over a long period of time and a gradual decline in health has been observed.
The certifying doctor in this case was long-time physician to the royal household, Dr Douglas Glass.
