Hundreds of luxury cars have been recalled due to a major safety defect.

A recall was issued for Toyota Kluger petrol and hybrid models built in 2023 on Wednesday. The recall includes cars with 2WD, AWS and hybrid features.

The driver’s side airbag was determined faulty after reports the wiring harness connection may become loose over time.

If this happens, the airbag warning light will illuminate and the driver-side airbag will not deploy in an accident, increasing the risk of injury or death to all passengers.

In the event of an accident, an airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.

When parts become available, Toyota will contact affected owners in writing requesting they make an appointment with their nearest authorised Toyota dealer for inspection and if necessary rectify, free of charge.

For further information, consumers should contact the Toyota Recall Assist helpline on 1800 987 366 (Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm AEDT).

Have you ever owned a car that has been recalled?
