Some shoppers at Woolworths have been able to score a free pork roast recently by exploiting a little-known loophole that relates to price scanners, Seniors Discount Club is reporting.

The loophole involves a notice you may have seen posted at your local supermarket regarding the Scanning Code of Practice.

Under the code, if there is a mismatch between the price scanned at the register and the price listed on the shelf, then the customer is entitled to receive the item for free.

A group of savvy shoppers, aware of this rule, have scored themselves free pork roasts by waiting until their price is reduced later in the day for a ‘quick sale’ and then trying their luck at the register to see how it scans.

One shopper admitted that they “intentionally look for these mistakes” to collect free meat, encouraging others to “be on the lookout”.

The same shopper added, “sometimes I will go to shops more than once a day if I have time.”

“Sometimes it’s pure luck, and sometimes it’s catching them out doing the wrong thing.”

Have you used this scanner trick before?
