There have been some horrifying results released from a report by the NRMA.
The organisation’s Bust the Boozers report claims that more than one in 10 drivers admitted to drink driving.
The report revealed that 12 per cent of people who drink alcohol had driven while over the limit, while an additional 17 per cent believed they were possibly over the limit when they got behind the wheel.
What the hell is going on? I thought we were past all that.
In my long-distant youth, it was common the older generation to get behind the wheel with far too many beverages on board and no one thought anything of it.
Of course, the road toll in the 70s hovered around the 3500 mark as well. Everyone knew someone who had died in a car accident.
For comparison, with a much larger population, Australia’s road toll in 2021 was 1123.
There are no excuses anymore. We know the outcome of drink driving. Call a cab, grab a lift or don’t drink.
How would you tell a friend not to drink and drive?
