Joe Biden has flagged he will run again for president in 2024, by that time he will be aged 82 and will be 86 when he leaves office.

If Donald Trump runs, he will be 77. Other notable US politicians well past retirement age are Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, aged 83 and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, age 81.

I guess you can call it ageism, but in today’s fast-moving world, if I was voting in the US I’d want a few more players with a bit of zip.

In the US, presidents can’t run for more than two terms. Is it time to force retirement as well?

I am 73 and based on my life experience very few people should be working full time after 70. Part time OK but not full time as your energy levels drop.
As for working past 80, if you even live that long, IMO anyone doing so should have to pass an annual cognitive test.
