If you’re an Android user, there’s a new piece of malware to be on the lookout for. Recently released on the Google Play store, an app called ‘SafeChat’ purports to encrypt your online messages making them unreadable to outsiders.
The app, however, does the exact opposite, with cybersecurity firm Cyfirma confirming the app is dangerous.
Once the app is installed, it will remain on your Android device until you delete it manually by heading to your Apps page. Until then, it’s gathering huge amounts of data in the background.
It’s not clear what’s then being done with your stolen data, but it can’t be anything good. Google has removed the app from the store, but if you had previously purchased it, then it will remain available for you to redownload.
Have you ever used SafeChat?
NO & don’t buy apps.
