Now that it’s warmer in most states and territories (maybe except for Tassie), fruit and vegies ripen at a faster rate. Here’s how to stop your bananas ripening too fast, according to a post on TikTok from a foodie expert.
Armen Adamjan says you should wrap a certain part of the banana in plastic wrap.
“Separate all the bananas and then wrap each banana stem with plastic wrap,” he says. “Doing this slows down the ethylene production and keeps your bananas fresh for seven days.”
Other posters suggested putting aluminum foil at the top of the bunch to slow the ripening process.
Another commented: “Putting bananas in the fridge helps their life span too.”
Armen also has a tip for ripening bananas.
“If, for whatever reason, you actually need them to be ripe, just throw them in the oven for 15 minutes at 170 degrees [centigrade].”
