Woolworths is taking a step towards promoting healthier choices by removing children’s confectionary from checkouts.
In a bid to support customers in making more healthy decisions, the supermarket giant will no longer stock products aimed at children, such as Chupa Chups, Kinder Surprise, and Caramello Koalas, beside tills.
Instead, Woolworths is increasing its range of healthier food options, which have a Health Star Rating (HSR) of 3.5 and above. The company has committed to dedicating 80 percent of shelf space to these items, making it easier for customers to make healthier choices while shopping.
Natalie Davis, the managing director at Woolworths, emphasized the significance of these changes, telling news.com.au, “These are small but important steps in the right direction as we work to make healthier choices easier for our customers.”
“There’s no replacement for wholesome food like fruit and veg, but removing kids’ confectionery from checkouts and helping customers make small swaps on food they pick up can help make a positive impact on their shopping habits.”
