If you live in Queensland, and have been affected by a natural disaster such as the recent storms on the Gold Coast, flooding caused by Cyclone Jasper in the north, or the bushfires on the Darling Downs, you may be entitled to support payments from the federal government.
Victims of these disasters may qualify for the federal government’s Disaster recovery Payment, a one-off lump sum determined by the scale of the disaster. If you live in one of the areas mentioned, you can apply for the payment either over the phone or online through your myGov account.
The government acknowledges that immediately after a disaster may not be the most practical time to call, so gives additional time to lodge your claim.
“We understand claiming may not be your priority at this time, you’ll have six months to make a claim. You can claim when you’re ready,” the federal government says on its website.
