We’ve covered the imminent shutdown of the 3G telecommunications network on YourLifeChoices before. The network was originally due to shutdown on 30 June, but the nation’s largest phone and internet provider, Telstra, has announced a change to the date.
It will now extend the life of 3G-compatible phones and other electronics by two months to 31 August, in order to give customers more time to upgrade their devices.
“Telstra have been communicating the closure of the network for nearly five years but understand there are a range of reasons why some people haven’t moved on,” a Telstra spokesman said in a statement.
“We have to make sure everyone is ready to make this transition together – and we know some of our customers are still working through the steps they need to take to upgrade their devices.
“That’s why we’ve decided to provide more time and further support.”
According to Telstra data, there are still around 110,000 customers who had yet to upgrade to a 4G-capable device or above. Have you made the switch?
