Coles and Woolworths have suspended their soft recycling program after the company running it admitted it could no longer offload the material to recyclers.

The company said collections will be paused as its recycling partners are no longer accepting and processing the donations.

According to the ABC program War on Waste, 85 per cent of soft plastics from bags and packaging ends up in landfill and remember when it was discovered a lot of our hard plastics such as drink bottles were simply shipped to China and no one knew what happened next?

Check any local council’s website, I bet it’s big on recycling, but very quiet about how that works.

Don’t get me wrong, we need to reduce waste, but maybe there should be some more transparency about how, and if, that actually happens.

Are you confident your recycling makes it through the system?

We collect the ten cents for all our bottles and cans etc but have no idea what happens to them after that. I hope they are recycled and not put into landfill.
