Just in case you were thinking of speeding in Queensland, you may want to check the fines before you put your foot down.
The government has announced some new hikes in fines, to come into effect on 1 July.
Some of the increased fines are:
• Less than 11 kilometres over the limit, $322 fine.
• Driving at least 11/kmh but not more than 20/kmh over the speed limit, $484 fine
• Speeding more than 40 kilometres over the limit, $1852.
• Drivers caught on their phone, $1210.
• Driver failing to wear a seatbelt $1210
Queensland’s state treasury counts on the revenue it generates from speeding fines. It’s predicted to take in more than $850 million next financial year.
In some good news the government has promised not to hike vehicle registrations this year.
Do you think these fines are fair?
